Carter’s Birthday in the Hundred Acre Wood

When Gen messaged me about wanting to create a Winnie the Pooh cake smash session for Carter, I was SO excited! Growing up, it was my sister, Amanda’s, favorite cartoon to watch, so getting to research and design the set really took me for a trip down Memory Lane!

Gen (Carter’s mom) was so awesome in creating a Pinterest Board for what she was envisioning. It was super helpful in jumping in to the planning phase of the shoot! She told me about Carter’s outfit and that she was looking to get a cake made that looked like a honey pot; I went into planning mode for the background! Initially, I looked into purchasing a backdrop that was themed–but I couldn’t find one that was just right! Many of the backdrops had large honey pots as part of the grand design, so I started to think about how to create them! And then the idea struck–flower pots! We went to several stores before scoring the perfect “hunny pots” at Home Depot! After grabbing some paint and fabric, I set to work!

I decided to set up the shoot in our morning room since it has gorgeous, natural light. My husband and I moved all of the furniture out, rolled up the rug and we got to placing everything in the “Hundred Acre Wood”!

Gen and Myran brought the finishing touches like stuffed friends, the cutest little bumble bees, a hand-crafted sign, the Hunny Pot cake, and–of course–the cutest little Pooh-Bear anyone had ever seen! When they arrived, Carter was wide-eyed and ready to rock since he’d had a super nap after waking up at 6 am that morning (I think his mom and dad wished that they’d napped along-side him!) He was on the move and smiled for his singing little people who luckily traveled along with him!

Between the little bees, the honey wand, Mom and Dad hugs and the cake–Carter kept busy and had a blast! When it came to his cake–the fondant icing proved to be a bit tricky. After many attempts to get the frosting in his hand, he had to resort to Plan B! If he couldn’t bring the cake to his mouth, he would bring his mouth to the cake! And he had a VICTORY! It was to cutest thing–and once he got a taste, he was SOLD! It was a joy watching him play and smash, and eat his funfetti cake!

Once Carter had had his fill of cake and icing, it was time for wipes, paper towels, and a quasi-bath in the kitchen sink!

Thank you, Gen and Myran, for sharing this special first with me! From his crawling to get extra hugs during the session to sitting in the giant hunny pot– there were so many sweet and memorable moments.

The love that exists in your family is so apparent and abundant! Carter is incredibly lucky to have such amazing parents. I can’t wait to watch him grow!

XO,

Angie
